Glasgow City Council is one of Scotland’s largest employers. Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability (NRS), as part of the council, deliver essential frontline services, which are designed to help achieve our aim of creating a cleaner, safer, better Glasgow. Through citizen engagement and working together with our city partners we provide enhanced service delivery, ensuring that the needs and demands of communities are supported and responded to at a local level. It has responsibility for maintaining parks and open spaces, roads and lighting, as well as ensuring a clean environment within the city.
A two year apprenticeship where you will work outdoors maintaining Glasgow’s parks, open spaces and streets. You will be assigned placements across the city to give you a wide range of experience within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability (NRS) for Glasgow City Council. You will be expected to attend training at Daldowie Training Centre regularly. You should expect to have to travel anywhere around the city.
You will follow instructions, work safely and follow council policies including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) which will be provided. You should be respectful towards supervisors, work colleagues, fellow apprentices, training instructors and the general public.
Work experience in parks or outdoor environment preferred. An interest in plants and the environment would also be beneficial.
You should be a hard worker and work well in groups. You should be looking to improve yourself, including communication skills, problem solving and working with others.
National 4’s are desirable but are not essential.
Due to funding criteria this vacancy is available to the following: 16-19 year olds 20-29 year olds with a disability 20-29 year olds who are care experienced *(Age on 24th October 2022)*
