Education Services – The Technician Support Service (TSS) supports teaching and learning in all sectors of Education Services within Glasgow City Council. TSS provide a wide range of advisory, technician support and other specialist services to all educational establishments. As well as Technician Service Management and Health & Safety Related Services to the department.
DUE TO FUNDING CRITERIA, THIS VACANCY IS AVAILABLE TO THE FOLLOWING: 16-19 YEAR OLDS 20-29 YEAR OLDS WITH A DISABILITY 20-29 YEAR OLDS WHO ARE CARE EXPERIENCED Working in a Glasgow Secondary School training over a 4 year period, working towards a Modern Apprenticeship at SVQ Level 3 in Laboratory Science, under the guidance of a Senior Support Service Technician. Duties will include the servicing of school science laboratories with equipment required for the teaching of science within schools. This will include the use and preparation of chemicals, solutions, microbiology, physics and simple construction of science equipment.
Can demonstrate a keen interest in science and practical subject areas. You will be proactive and demonstrate problem solving skills and have a practical attitude towards work. Can demonstrate an ability to work as part of a specialist team of school based technicians. Can demonstrate a high level of communication skills. Training is provided in-house and at college.
Minimum 1 Higher (Grade C) in either Chemistry or Biology/Human Biology, PLUS Nat 5 (Grade A/B) in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English. Alternatively, any nationally recognised equivalent qualification e.g. NC Applied Science.
An interest in the use of ICT related software and equipment. Some elements of the Technical, ICT and Audio Visual content of a School Support Service Technicians duties will also be covered via in-house training during the 4 year apprenticeship.
