About the Company

Cadder Housing Association is a social landlord in the North West of the city which offers a range of services to tenants and owners. We are responsible for the management of 652 rented accommodation and circa 400 owner occupiers. We currently employ over 35 staff including our own in house trade team and estate caretaking team to bring quality and responsive services to our customers. Our teams are based in the Balmore estate. The successful candidate will attend college on day release for a 2 year course, and we will assist in the cost of travel. We offer 20 days annual leave plus 15 days public holidays (pro rata). You will be provided with a uniform and suitable protective clothing.

Job Description

We wish to appoint an apprentice to our well established Estate Caretaking team. You will be working in a manual working environment and be able to undertake estate caretaking tasks such as clean and wash closes, stairs and windows, clean bin areas and paved areas, assist with clearing out empty properties as required and grass cutting, hedging and shrub bed maintenance. You will be expected to undertake your role to the tenant and Association’s satisfaction. You should be able to work on your own initiative or as part of a team, be conscientious; be flexible in your approach to meet organisational goals; and have a pleasant friendly manner. In return we offer 25 days annual leave plus 15 public holidays (pro-rata) together with a Defined Contribution Pension. We are looking for the appointed person to be able to start as soon as appointed to the position.

Key Responsibilities

The estate caretaking team play an important role in keeping the Cadder estate in a good and clean condition. You will work as part of a team made up of apprentices and full time members of staff to carry out a range of duties. These duties will differ depending on the season but will include: Grass / hedge cutting in open spaces, backcourts and front gardens during summer months Maintain and plant in shrub beds Wash common stairs of properties including windows Remove bulk items from backcourts Clear and clean empty properties Sweep an remove litter throughout the estate Gritting of pavements during winter months The Association will provide protective clothing and equipment and will will arrange for Health & Safety training. We will also provide in house training for staff to develop their skills and provide support on employment opportunities. There will be opportunities for extended placements after 2 years and we will also support our apprentice in gaiing employment at the end of their term by providing job boards with vacancies, assisting in CV's and allow time for inteirveiws.

Experience and Knowledge

No experience is necessary but showing an interest in learning new skills and commitment to attending college is necessary.Q

Key Skills

Essential - Clean and tidy appearance, pleasant & friendly manner, good time keeping and conscientious, able to perform heavy & manual duties, willing to wear a uniform, awareness of Health & Safety, willing to work in a manual environment and be reliable. Desirable - Good communication skills, flexible, experience in cleaning related duties and/or grass cutting, interest in DIY / Gardening

Education, Qualifications and Training

Must be educated to a minimum of National 4 Level. Commitment to completing the 2 year college course to achieve SVQ Level 2 in Amenity & Horticultural Landscape Gardener is essential.
