Job Description

We are looking to add an enthusiastic welding & fabrication apprentice to our current team. The apprenticeship will be based over 4 years, consisting of 6 months initial workshop based training followed by 2 years college day release to allow the successful candidate to achieve SVQ Level 3 standard, followed by a further 18 months workshop / site based training. Additional training will be given as and when required over the course of the apprenticeship, including CSCS, IPAF, PASMA etc.

Key Responsibilities

Over the course of your apprenticeship you will be placed with a range of tradesmen working on various aspects of metalworking, including manufacture of balustrades, staircases and structural steel frames.

The right applicant will gain a wide and varied understanding of metal fabrication and engineering projects and gain a skill for life.

Following completion of the apprenticeship there will be opportunities to further enhance your development through additional training courses and promotions depending on abilities.

Key Skills

You must have a clear interest in becoming a welder / fabricator and also be aware that the role can be physically demanding at times. You should also be reliable, punctual, diligent, enthusiastic, able to take instruction and work well with others.

Parkhead Welding Co Ltd is a family run business that has been trading for more than 50 years in the East End of Glasgow. Our main work stream is servicing and supplying the construction industry with manufacture and installation of various steel products including staircases, balustrades, secondary steelwork and steel structures. The company has 35 employees with a significant number of staff having in excess of 25 years service behind them, showing that staff retention is a key objective within the company.

Education, Qualifications and Training

National 4 passes in English and Maths as a minimum.

Experience & Knowledge

No experience is necessary but experience of working in a team is desirable.

Any Additional Requirements

This is a 4 year apprenticeship and you will receive an SVQ Level 3 certificate in Fabrication and Welding Engineering, along with CSCS Health & Safety certification.
