Due to funding criteria, apprenticeships are available to the following: All 16-19 year olds 20-29 year olds with a disability 20-29 year old who are care experienced As a Lift Engineer apprentice you would be working alongside qualified tradespeople gaining the necessary experience to service, maintain and repair a wide variety of lift installations within a large portfolio of council and social housing properties. You will gain knowledge and experience on working with equipment from some of the lift industries main blue-chip companies such as Kone, Thyssen, Schindler and Orona as well as many of the third-party lift manufacturers including Lester Controls, Thames Valley, International Lift Equipment and Global Lifts resulting in you having a broad-based understanding and knowledge of all types of lift controllers and equipment. Successful applicants will gain invaluable experience working in the different disciplines within the trade which includes preventative maintenance which helps prolong the lifespan of equipment, breakdown repairs which involves interrogating lift equipment and undertaking fault finding procedures to establish underlying faults and major repair works such as main rope replacement, gearbox and lift motor repairs. This apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to develop your skills in both electrical and mechanical engineering. During the first year of the apprenticeship you will be expected to attend an engineering college where you will gain an SVQ in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 covering broad based engineering skills such as: - Fabrication and Fitting Milling and Turning CNC Milling and Turning Electrical Engineering During this time, you will also work towards gaining a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering. For the remainder of the apprenticeship you will be required to work towards SCQF Level 6 in Engineering Maintenance (Lift Servicing). This involves you completing SVQ Units within the qualification based on the work you are involved in and recording this in a portfolio format which is assessed by an external body. An apprenticeship with City Building (Glasgow) LLP gives you the best of all worlds in that you gain experience in broad base engineering skills and gain an academic qualification at the start, you combine these with the engineering skills and experience you learn on the job and have the opportunity to work on a variety of equipment and different types of lift installations such as traction, hydraulic and motor roomless lifts. This ensures that during your apprenticeship you gain a wide understanding of all equipment within the lift industry, something which is not always offered within the private sector. During the apprenticeship you could be working within:- Public Buildings, Social Housing, Sheltered Housing, Schools, New Build Schools and Refurbishment and Installation Projects. As well as gaining a vast amount of experience, you will ‘earn as you learn’ meaning you will be paid a wage for learning your trade. Successful applicants will be given full support throughout their apprenticeship and are expected to adhere to existing work practices, methods, procedures and undertake relevant training and development activities, as well as carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as directed by Supervisors. You are expected to adhere to City Building (Glasgow) LLP’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
