Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Modern Apprentice. This post is to support the general upkeep and maintenance of our refuges across Glasgow. You will carry out maintenance tasks, ensure our accommodation is properly stocked and work alongside outside contractors. You will also support the collection and distribution of our donations. As a Modern Apprentice you will complete SVQ Level 2 Facilities Services as part of your role. Due to the nature of the job and it being city wide it is essential that you have a full driving license.

Key Responsibilities

Role Specific 1. Ensure all necessary maintenance work in office and in refuges gets carried out within an appropriate timescale either by the post holder or a suitable outside contractor. 2. Support new residents into refuge by ensuring the refuges are to standard and stocked with necessities prior to their arrival. 3. Familiarising new occupants with all appliances i.e. washing machine, heating system and H&S and Fire requirements. 4. Maintain the following records via the online database: a. An inventory of fixtures and fittings in refuges and office b. A record of all maintenance or work done at GWA properties c. Records of stock of items for refuge – e.g. bedding, kettles, cleaning, products etc. 5. Maintaining and distributing fobs and keys across all sites. 6. Ensure that all appliances and fixtures are in good order. 7. Ensure that all GWA properties are secured and to have responsibility for keys and their return and distribution. 8. Liaise with contractors to arrange access. 9. Respond sensitively to clients, deal with their requests for maintenance and replacements and to signpost any non-maintenance related queries to the appropriate worker. 10. Take monthly meter readings of refuge electricity and gas meters and pass to the Finance Worker. 11. Support with collection and allocation of donations Organisational wide 1. Participate in relevant training, team meetings and development days for continuous professional development. 4. Engage in Support and Supervision. 5. Promote Service User involvement 6. Maintain Health and Safety 7. Play an active role in awareness raising and fundraising 8. Have a contemporary knowledge of all forms of gender based violence 9. Carry out such other appropriate duties as may be determined by GWA.

Glasgow Women’s Aid provides information, support and temporary refuge accommodation for women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. We have 5 refuges across Glasgow with a total of 45 refuge spaces for single women or women and their children. We employ 45 workers and employ only women due to our organisation providing safe spaces for women who have experienced domestic abuse from their male partner. Our workers do a variety of women’s support role, children’s support roles and office based roles in our main office.

Experience & Knowledge

Experience Experience of organising own workload and using initiative. Experience of Health and Safety work. Experience of maintenance in supported accommodation. Skills and Abilities Well organised with an ability to understand and follow instructions. Friendly manner and ability to communicate clearly and positively with landlords, clients and contractors Qualifications / Knowledge Face to face and on the telephone.
