A three year apprenticeship where you will work outdoors within Glasgow’s Pollok Country Park to look after the health and well being of the Service’s fold of Highland Cattle including calving, field maintanence, preparing and showing cattle all over the country. A key part of the role will be interacting with members of the public on a day to day basis, talking to park users or assisting with educational talks/tours. Completion of work place assignments, Use of Computers.
This is an on-farm work-based programme which develops your agriculture skills and knowledge. A range of topics will be covered during the course including health and safety, management of soils and crops, monitoring and maintaining the health and welfare of livestock and estate maintenance. Additional specialised units could be on offered in Year 3.
You will be required to attend SRUC for block release for one or two weeks during your apprenticeship.
Promote the health and well being of the highland cattle including feeding, mucking out, washing, assisting with health checks. Preparing cattle to be taken to shows and presenting cattle at shows. Assisting with educational visits to Pollok Country Park. Field maintanence including installing and repairing fences. Using tractors with machinery and driving vans.
Driving – applicant should have their driving licence, or willing to achieve during their apprenticeship.
Confident around animals.
IT skills – to complete your college work and assist in completing paperwork relating to the fold.

Work experience in parks or outdoor environment preferred.
A keen interest in animals is essential.
Work experience first hand working in Pollok Country Park and attending NRS Training at Daldowie Training Centre and SRUC.
