Job Description

KEY TASKS
• Work alongside the childcare team to enable all children within the centre to develop their full potential by supporting them in appropriate experiences and learning opportunities within the framework of local and national curriculum, GIRFEC guidance, and Care Standards.
• To support the creation of a warm, caring environment in which each child feels secure, respected and valued in her/his own right and which promotes equality of opportunity for all.
• To establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents and families to support their child’s early learning.
• To assist key workers to observe and monitor the learning needs of each child and provide her/him with opportunities to develop skills and access experiences appropriate to her/his developmental needs.
• To begin to recognise and be aware of children who are at risk and take appropriate action.
• To work alongside your mentor to develop your skills and good practice in childcare and early education.
• To ensure the continued delivery of excellent care and education through commitment to your qualification, PDP activities, and meetings.
• Support the team to ensure the playrooms are kept clean, tidy and safe for children to explore.

POST ACTIVITIES - Playroom role
• Engage with children and assess their learning needs.
• With your mentor, plan and deliver appropriate learning experiences based on observations of children and dialogue with parents and key workers.
• Ensure the room is safe, clean and all equipment has been checked and is suitable for use.
• Keep relevant paperwork up to date including fire registers and cleaning schedules.
• Work as part of the team to ensure that the needs of all the children are met.
• Support the preparation of regular progress reports for parents, management and other agencies as required.
• Participate in room meetings and monitoring sessions.
• Carry out tasks required for the successful completion of your qualification and apply new learning to your practice.

Ensure Policies and Procedures are implemented
• Regularly read and adhere to all MHA and CFN policies.
• Participate in working parties and policy review groups.
• Implement policies and procedures and exemplify high standards of practice.
• Be responsible for specific aspects of the nursery development such as healthy eating initiatives, eco schools, parent forum, or other, as determined with your line manager.

Monitoring and Evaluation
• Participate in the self-evaluation and monitoring of the service maintaining records and attending meetings/discussions.
• By engaging in professional dialogue with co-workers, and management, you will begin to assess various aspects of the service and your own practice and use these reflections to plan changes for improvement.
• Implement change and improvement according to agreed action plans and initiatives.

Communications
Internal: Contact with all staff within the nursery.
External: Contact with parents, external agencies and other visitors to the nursery.
Health and Safety: You will be expected to adhere to all relevant health and safety policies and legislation.
You must ensure the continued safety of service users at all times.
Carry out safety checks.
Complete relevant risk assessments and health and safety paperwork.

Key Responsibilities

The applicant must be:

1) Registered with SSSC as support worker Day care of children, this includes compliance with the current requirements for qualifications.

2) Member of PVG record scheme.

Company profile

Milnbank Community Enterprises (a subsidiary of Milnbank Housing Association) opened the doors to Carbon Footprints Nursery, in a purpose built eco-friendly building, within its Great Eastern regeneration development on Duke Street, in 2012. Since then, both the Nursery and Out of School Care services have established themselves as a much-valued community facility with an excellent reputation held across the sector.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential:
3 Nationals at Grade 4, or above;
3 Standard Grades at Grade 3, or above

At Carbon Footprints Nursery our team is expected to be committed to professional development by engaging in a variety of CPD activities and training. This will include:

• Commitment to working one Saturday or 2 evenings of every month dedicated to CPD and team meetings.
• Willingness to work as part of a team supporting colleagues.
• Ability to be flexible with shift patterns and working hours.
• Ability to implement standards, knowledge and understanding set out in the SSSC Code of Practice and the Continuous Learning Framework as summarised below.
