The succesful applicant will be working in a laboratory based environment under supervision of qualified staff/trainers/assessors. Duties involve chemical analysis and/or microbiological examination in a range of work areas including instrumentation, calibration, environmental, consumer, food and waters. In-house training will also be provided throughout the apprenticeship on a needs basis.
College release 1.0 - 1.5 days per week.
Preparation and maintenance of laboratory equipment prior to and after use. Care and attention to comply with Health & Safety procedures and practices including the use of PPE.

Glasgow City Council: NRS/GSS
Glasgow Scientific Services, part of Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability is a laboratory in the North of Glasgow. With around 50 personnel, it provides a comprehensive scientific, analytical and consultancy service from its UKAS accredited laboratory. Amongst our customers are local authorities, private business and government agencies.
The Food and Microbiology Laboratory provides an analytical service to ensure the safety of food and compliance with labelling and legislation as well as testing animal feeds.
The Consumer Protection function analyse and advise, amongst other things, on toys, pens and pencils, textiles, household chemicals, cookware, and fertilisers. The Environment section analyses all aspects of environmental monitoring including, contaminated land, landfill sites, air pollution, odour complaints, water quality, swimming pool water and jacuzzi waters. The Calibration and Testing section deals with the calibration of a multitude of equipment in all aspects of mass, volume and temperature calibration as well as providing an electrical safety testing service to our customers.
Minimum of 2 Highers with at least one being either Chemistry or Biology (grade C).
National 5 in Maths/English (grade B) and Science subjects is desirable.
Studying a Foundation Apprenticeship in Scientific Technologies would be an advantage.
